Case Study
Crowded Teeth and Openbite
What was the problem and what could have happened if left untreated?
The patient had difficulty chewing due to an open bite, crowding of teeth, and a mild crossbite.
If left untreated, the condition could have worsened over time, eventually leading to bite problems, TMJ (jaw joint) issues, gum disease, and even tooth loss.
What caused it?
Open bites can occur due to problems in jaw growth and teeth eruption, or as a result of abnormal childhood habits such as thumb or finger sucking, tongue thrusting, and others.
What was the treatment done?
The patient was treated with Self-Ligating (Damon) Braces to correct the crowding, crossbite, and close the front teeth, thereby improving chewing function.
The treatment duration was 16 months.
