Dental Cowns & Bridges

Dental Crowns: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers the entire visible portion of a damaged or weakened tooth above the gum line. It is custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of the natural teeth, restoring the tooth’s strength, shape, and appearance. Crowns are commonly used to protect and strengthen teeth with large fillings, fractures, severe decay, or after root canal treatment. They also serve as the visible part of dental implants to replace a missing tooth.

Dental Bridges: A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges restore the appearance of the smile, prevent neighboring teeth from shifting, and restore chewing functionality.

A person should consider getting Dental Crowns:

  1. Severe Tooth Decay: When a tooth has extensive decay that cannot be restored with a dental filling, a crown can protect and strengthen the remaining tooth structure.
  2. Fractured or Cracked Teeth: Dental crowns can be used to repair teeth with significant cracks or fractures, preventing further damage and preserving the tooth.
  3. Root Canal Treatment: After a root canal procedure, a dental crown is often placed over the treated tooth to provide support and protection.
  4. Large Fillings: Teeth with large fillings that compromise their structural integrity may require crowns to prevent breakage or additional damage.
  5. Cosmetic Improvements: Dental crowns can enhance the appearance of misshapen, discolored, or poorly proportioned teeth, improving the overall aesthetics of the smile.
  6.  Tooth Wear: In cases of significant tooth wear, crowns can restore the shape and function of the affected teeth.

A person should consider getting Dental Bridges Treatment:

  1. Missing Teeth: Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth, providing a stable and natural-looking restoration.
  2. Preventing Shifting: Bridges prevent neighboring teeth from shifting into the gap left by a missing tooth, helping to maintain the alignment of the teeth.
  3. Restoring Chewing Function: Bridges restore the ability to chew and eat comfortably, especially when multiple adjacent teeth are missing.
  4. Cosmetic Enhancement: Bridges can improve the appearance of the smile by filling in gaps created by missing teeth.

Dental Bridges: A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges restore the appearance of the smile, prevent neighboring teeth from shifting, and restore chewing functionality.

Cure Dental Issues

Dental Crowns Treatment:

  1. Consultation and Evaluation: The prosthodontist or restorative dentist examines the affected tooth, takes X-rays, and discusses the treatment options with the patient. If a dental crown is deemed necessary, the dentist will explain the procedure and answer any questions.
  2. Tooth Preparation: The tooth receiving the crown is prepared by removing a small amount of enamel from all sides to create space for the crown. This ensures a proper fit and avoids a bulky appearance.
  3. Impression: An impression or mold of the prepared tooth is taken to create a custom-made crown that matches the shape and size of the natural tooth.
  4. Crown Fabrication: The dental laboratory creates the permanent crown based on the impression. It can be made from materials like porcelain, ceramic, metal, or a combination of materials, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.
  5. Crown Placement: Once the permanent crown is ready, the dentist checks its fit, color, and appearance. The crown is then permanently bonded onto the prepared tooth using dental adhesive and a special curing light.

Dental Bridges Treatment:

  1. Consultation and Evaluation: The prosthodontist or restorative dentist evaluates the patient’s missing teeth, neighboring teeth, and overall oral health. If a dental bridge is recommended, the treatment plan is discussed, and any questions are addressed.
  2. Tooth Preparation (For Abutment Teeth): The teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth (abutment teeth) are prepared similar to dental crown treatment to receive crowns. These abutment teeth will anchor the bridge.
  3. Impression: An impression of the prepared abutment teeth and the empty space between them is taken to create a custom bridge in the dental laboratory.
  4. Bridge Fabrication: The dental laboratory creates the permanent bridge based on the impression. The bridge consists of the artificial tooth and the crowns for the abutment teeth.
  5. Bridge Placement: The permanent bridge is checked for fit and appearance. It is then bonded to the abutment teeth using dental adhesive, filling in the gap left by the missing tooth.

Both dental crowns and bridges are durable and natural-looking restorations that can improve the function and aesthetics of the teeth, restoring a patient’s smile and confidence.

"As someone who has experienced a bad trauma to the teeth in the past - with lengthy and painful dental procedures after - every time I need to see a dentist I procrastinate for as long as possible knowing I’ll be highly uncomfortable. Today’s two hour session with Dr Akansha was the first time in 20 years I felt nothing like that. Rather the opposite - Dr Akansha is first and foremost a highly skilled professional whose competence makes you know you’re in safe hands - but she’s also such a kind personality, paying attention to her patients’ needs in order for them to feel calm and comfortable. The team at the clinic keep a great standard of exceptionally high quality, hygiene and service level. I’m giving my highest recommendations!"
